Emergency Response

A calamity for the inhabitants of the hilly and marshy regions subjected to intense rainfall and mountain slope erosion in the Haor area. Crops are washed away in the torrents. Due to prolonged waterlogging, vulnerable people suffer from food shortages, lack of clean water, and severe health crises. Every year, amidst such catastrophic conditions, life passes in the Sunamganj district of Sylhet. Moreover, several villages in Sylhet and Sirajganj districts situated on the banks of the Surma, Kushiyara, and Sari-Goain rivers are marked as areas prone to cyclones, floods, and river erosion, among other natural disasters.

In the summer of 2022, sudden flooding wreaked havoc in Sylhet and Sirajganj, affecting mostly women and children. At this time, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation provided emergency relief assistance to over 2000 affected individuals in the wilderness areas, distributing rice, lentils, oil, onions, and potatoes; food packets containing biscuits and jaggery; and essential medicines like saline, diarrhea and skin disease medications, water purification tablets, etc.
